My commitment to you
I was raised in Hobart and attended Howrah Primary School, Clarence High School and Rosny College. I have a strong connection to the community and appreciate what a fantastic place Tasmania is to live.
As both a mother and a daughter, I am particularly interested in issues affecting younger and older people.
I have a broad range of experience working with the community to achieve positive outcomes, including establishing a state-wide community legal education program at Legal Aid. I also have a long track record in protecting heritage buildings and the environment. I am a lawyer and senior manager, was a Fulbright Scholar in vocational education and training and hold a Master of Business Administration.
I will work with the people of Tasmania and governments at local, State and Federal levels to progress positive change for the benefit of Tasmanians.
If we Plan together and Act together, we can Achieve together.
My Priorities
I will turn the HEAT on:
Heritage: Preserving and enhancing our superb natural and cultural heritage
I will work with you to:
- preserve heritage buildings by raising funds through a heritage lottery
- ensure local communities are involved in decisions about developments in their neighbourhood
- establish regional tourism hubs, integrating activities, accommodation, transport and services (e.g. Derwent Valley)
- ensure Ralphs Bay remains a conservation and recreational area
- extend Mt Field National Park to include the Upper Florentine Valley
- protect the habitat of the Tasmanian devil, including the Tarkine.
Empowerment: Empowering individuals and communities to achieve positive outcomes
I will work with you to:
- address rising costs of Government services, including electricity, water and sewerage, and bus fares
- developing strategies to keep students engaged in education, including coaching and mentoring programs
- provide free assessment services so workers can gain qualifications and skill gaps can be identified
- provide greater support for elderly people to stay living in their own homes
- ensure the community helps to create our own future through an effective consultation process
- establish an Innovations Program across the state service to improve services to the community.
Accountability: Increasing accountability of parliament and improving public service
I will work with you to:
- establish clear rules and a probity advice service for Parliamentarians
- develop agreed values for Parliamentarians to guide their behaviour (e.g. take into account the needs of future generations when making decisions; collaborate with the community to design programs)
- establish an independent corruption watchdog
- ensure all appointments to Government funded positions are made on merit, including advertising employment contracts when they end
- establish an ethics advisory service to assist public servants to do their jobs.
Transport: Improving safety, sustainability and usability of transport
I will work with you to:
- review Metro bus routes, fares and timetables to increase convenience and use of services
- reduce road congestion, such as introducing park and ride facilities on the Eastern Shore
- adopt international best practice in road safety for Tasmanians
- revitalise Tasmania’s rail system, including re-introducing passenger services.
I will turn the HEAT off:
The planet!
Because human behaviour impacts on the environment and changes in the environment impact on us and other creatures.
Addressing climate change is a priority for everyone and we have an opportunity for Tasmania to lead the world by creating “green collar” jobs in areas like renewable energy.
