Biography
Tasmania has great untapped opportunities. I not only want Tasmanians to “explore the possibilities”, I want the state to realise the possibilities. We need to capitalise on our sources of competitive advantage and ensure that governments, businesses and the community work together for the benefit of Tasmania.
My career has focused on serving the public through leadership, legal, financial and innovation roles, including:
• Director, Australian Taxation Office
• Deputy Official Receiver – Tasmania, Insolvency & Trustee Service Australia
• Registrar & Tribunal Member, Social Security Appeals Tribunal
• Executive Officer, National Legal Aid
• Manager Advice and Community Education, Legal Aid Commission of Tasmania
My commitment to social justice and improving government services has been demonstrated throughout my career.
I am a qualified Barrister and Solicitor, hold a Master of Business Administration, training and workplace coaching qualifications, and was a Fulbright Scholar in vocational education and training. As a family person, I care about excellence in education and healthcare for all ages, supporting older people to stay in their homes, and ensuring there is a healthy environment for future generations.
As a community member, I have worked for appropriate, sustainable and viable development that preserves and enhances our natural and heritage assets. I am President of Hobart Discovery Incorporated, a not-for-profit community organisation which purchased the Philip Smith Centre, a significant heritage building and revitalised it as a vibrant community facility.
